Manufacturer Description

A conservative island community is under attack! Port Gamble, Washington is being overrun with brain-eaters, and individuals seem powerless to stave them off. A ragtag band of rebels led by Frida (Janette Armand), an Iranian college student presumed of being an Iraqi terrorist, and Tom (Doug Fahl), a gay business owner who has actually returned to town with his partner to come out to his mother, attempts to turn the tide and push the getting into hordes of undead back.Zombies remain to
show their applicability to all categories with the low-budget political comedy Zombies of Mass Destruction, which pits a conservative town-- and its couple of liberal residents-- versus an army of the walking and ravenous dead. Director Kevin Hamedani's apparent design template is George Romero's zombie series, which uses the flesh eaters to deal with all manner of social ills, but neither Hamedani's targets nor his lead characters have much meat on their bones-- his heroes are defined mainly by what sets them apart from the remainder of the town(Iranian, gay, liberal )and his villains are cartoonish neocons and intolerant spiritual types, both which have actually been done to death, and by much better filmmakers. As soon as the living dead start appearing, the film gets some momentum, and the tone turns broad and bloody, but once more, Shaun of the Dead and Peter Jackson's Dead Alive did the zombie comedy with higher verve . Exactly what's left are a few entertaining minutes of splatter humor( one including a girl and a speeding car is both stunning and hilarious)and little else. The Zombies of Mass Destruction DVD, which is part of the 4th After Dark Horrorfest series, consists of a brief featurette that talks about Hamedani's factors for making the film, which are more politically charged than anything in the picture itself.-- Paul Gaita
